Who was your #Catfordcrush?

In the run up to Valentine’s Day we encouraged everyone to tell us which Catford business held a special place in their hearts and reveal their #CatfordCrush.

We were inundated with love letters, tweets and posts and the business that received the most love was The Bar & Bottle Shop on Catford Broadway!

We've been in touch with Natalie and Xhulio over at The Bottle Bar and Shop to tell them the good news, and they were delighted with all of the Catfordian love they received. Here's what they had to say:

"We're so grateful for the continuous and fantastic support (online and in person) locals have shown us. It seems our community is keen to "shop local" and support small businesses like ours, a great thing for Catford! We still can't believe we won the #Catfordcrush competition, THANK YOU so much for your votes and kind words!"

South London's next big food destination!

Catford has a long tradition of street markets, dating back to the 1800s when the neighbourhood’s very first market began. Now, Team Catford is celebrating this tradition and is launching the Catford Food Market.

From 10am-4pm on Sunday 25th March and on the last Sunday of each month, the market on Catford Broadway will showcase some of South East’s London’s most exciting food entrepreneurs.

It will give savvy locals the opportunity to connect with the prolific street food scene and give local entrepreneurs the opportunity to raise their profiles.

It’s an international affair with North East Indian treats from Raastawala, tempting Caribbean dishes from Jerk Off, mouth-watering South African specialities from Ma Kates and Japanese fayre from Fuse.

As well as street food there will be artisan producers offering bread, cakes, cheese, jams and chutney.

By implementing recommendations submitted to Commonplace, Catford Food Market will create real opportunities for new and existing businesses, in line with the Council’s vision to provide an exciting and sustainable retail offer that is fully supported by and meets the needs of local people.

Team Catford will also be there to listen to your views and aspirations for the area.

£20m funding will help to revive our town centre

Earlier this month, Lewisham Council secured £20m towards the regeneration of Catford and Lewisham town centres. For Catford, this money will go towards moving the south circular behind Laurence House, making land available for new homes, shops and public spaces.

With the borough’s population set to grow by 14% by 2024 (according to ONS figures 2014-2024) there is a real need to build more homes, and the Council, envisages that up to 2,500 new homes could be built across Catford Town Centre over the next ten years.

In summer 2018, architects will be appointed by the Council to prepare a draft masterplan – a plan of plans to guide development in Catford Town Centre over the next 20 years. We’ll share this draft masterplan with the community, discussing how new homes can be accommodated across the town centre, making the most of underused sites whilst considering the existing character of the area.

Are You Young and Vocal?

To celebrate and encourage Catford’s next generation of creative minds, Team Catford’s newest and youngest member, Charisse Chikwiri, has organised Young and Vocal - Catford’s first ever night dedicated to young creatives in South East London.

Taking place in a vacant shop in Catford Shopping Centre this Saturday, the event features a strong line-up of musicians, DJs, writers and visual artists showcasing their talents and skills.

Guests are invited to come and enjoy the creativity and network with like-minded people.
